2013: Our story on Powrie Street began with the opening of our new ‘Rustic’ Restaurant & Licensed Bar.
Our reputation is growing…

Our Covid-19 Story…
Amidst Covid-19’s widespread distress, our rustic Restaurant found itself in a truly fortunate position. We quickly realized that even as budgets tightened for so many, people still craved moments of normalcy and affordable indulgence. By truly focusing on delivering exceptional value and keeping our prices accessible, we were humbled to not only retain our cherished patrons but also welcome a small but steady surge of new clients. It was genuinely remarkable to witness how, during a period of immense financial strain, our simple dedication to affordability and a welcoming ambiance resonated so profoundly with our community. This chapter in our history, rooted in Mossel Bay, serves as a poignant reminder of the enduring power of good food, genuine connection, and the collective spirit in the face of adversity.

Farewell Ou Grootte
The 16th of October 2024 arrived cloaked in a complex tapestry of emotions for Big Daddy’s. The champagne bubbles of our four-award sweep still danced in the air, a testament to Willem’s unwavering vision and the “big flavors, simple setting” he’d championed from day one. This unparalleled recognition was, in many ways, his final, magnificent bow. Yet, with that triumph came the bittersweet moment of saying goodbye to the man himself. His son, Chris, now stands firmly at the helm, a direct continuation of Willem’s profound commitment to community and culinary excellence, ensuring the tracks ‘Ou Grootte’ forged lead to an even brighter future.
